Born on a street cart in Philadelphia during the Great Depression, the cheesesteak was created to fulfill a need for a fast and easy sandwich of real substance, at a reasonable cost. It didn't take long for the cheesesteak to catch on across Philadelphia and soon the sandwich became synonymous with the city in which it was created.
On a visit to Philladelphia, two brothers from Ohio fell in love with the cheesesteak and were determined to bring that same delectable experience to more cities nationwide. As a result, Great Steak was founded in 1982 in Dayton, Ohio and quickly expanded to five locations throughout the state. Three years later, the founders rolled out their first franchise.
Today, with locations across the United States and abroad, we're proud to carry on the tradition of the distinctive, unforgettable, nothing-like-it cheesesteak.
Our success can be attributed to several factors. Of course friendly service and fresh, high-quality ingredients play a significant role in the continued growth of our cheesesteak concept. In addition, substantial portions, grilled-to-order meals, affordable prices and a welcoming atmosphere keep this brand thriving. Great Steak prides itself on using the best and freshest ingredients, offering guests a premium quality product. True to the founders' vision, Great Steak serves "America's Premier Cheesesteak."
Led by the vision of entrepreneurial industry leaders, Great Steak's parent company, Kahala, is one of the fastest growing franchise companies in the world. With a large selection of high-quality, quick-service restaurant brands, Kahala is a privately held corporation dedicated to developing proven business models while providing the tools for your success.
Kahala has spent more than 20 years building not only a company, but rather a community based on support, trust and independence through interdependence. Our community is made up of passionate franchisees, respected vendors and a dedicated and talented support staff who all work together to give you the best opportunity for success.
Kahala is structured to support your success by achieving synergies and costs-savings for the franchise community by bundling "back of the house” functions, where the entire franchise community benefits from shared teams in purchasing, legal, finance, real estate, business training, IT and human resources to capitalize on economies of scale. Each brand, however, operates independently when it comes to developing, operating and marketing the individual concepts. A brand president is at the heart of the business and is equipped with a team of passionate sales, marketing and operations talent to support Great Steak and its franchisees. This type of support is unique in the franchise industry and sets Kahala apart from its competitors.
